    What is Sumatriptan–Naproxen used for?

    Sumatriptan–Naproxen is indicated for the treatment of acute migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. Sumatriptan–Naproxen helps relieve other migraine symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light/sound. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

    Sumatriptan–Naproxen will not reduce the frequency of migraine attacks. This drug does not prevent migraines and it will only treat a headache that has already started.

    Sumatriptan–Naproxen is a fixed combination medication that contains 2 ingredients: Sumatriptan and Naproxen. Sumatriptan belongs to a class of drugs called triptans, which works by reducing swelling of the blood vessels in the brain. Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which works by blocking certain substances that cause pain in the body.

    What is the recommended dosage of Sumatriptan–Naproxen?

    The dosage of Sumatriptan–Naproxen prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

    Take Sumatriptan–Naproxen with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not take more than two tablets in a 24-hour period.

    What if you miss a dose of Sumatriptan–Naproxen?

    Not applicable. Sumatriptan–Naproxen is taken only when needed and it does not have a regular dosing schedule.

    What if you overdose on Sumatriptan–Naproxen?

    Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Sumatriptan–Naproxen, seek medical attention immediately. Overdose symptoms of Sumatriptan–Naproxen may include dizziness, drowsiness, heartburn, seizures and stomach pain.

    What other drugs could interact with Sumatriptan–Naproxen?

    It may be noted that drugs other than those listed above may also interact with Sumatriptan–Naproxen.

    Usually drug interactions occur when it is taken with another drug or with food.     Sumatriptan–Naproxen can interact with blood thinners, steroids, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors and heart or blood pressure medications.

Make sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions you may have, or any family history of medical problems. Do not start or stop using any medicine without consulting your doctor.

    What are the side effects of Sumatriptan–Naproxen?

    Like other medicines, Sumatriptan–Naproxen can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Sumatriptan–Naproxen are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

    It is pertinent to note that side effects of Sumatriptan–Naproxen cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Sumatriptan–Naproxen develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.
